I've been taking pictures of dinner again

I saw a recipe for roasted cauliflower, feta, and lemon pasta a while back and asked Cody to make it for me.  Excuse me while I swoon.

He used mixed salad and beet greens instead of arugula.

There was a cheese sauce in my home.

This really is cauliflower.  It just looks like broccoli for some reason.

I ate so much of this. And yes, with a big slice of fresh bread.

It was great.  It's delicious as a side or as a meal all by itself.  So garlicky, so cheesy.  It reheated beautifully, and I felt really rich when I heated this up and ate it in my office in front of my computer like I always do.  Oh yes, hello.  Here is this PBS recipe that my husband made for me because he is a good cook and I'm a beautiful woman worth cooking for.

I just thought I would mention this, especially when I got carried away and took pictures.  This happened a few weeks ago, and I was just really excited that I saw something and thought it would be amazing and then it really turned out to be amazing--even with the substitutions.  Excellent.

Laine had a birthday!

Man.

Year 29 was pretty noteworthy.  She celebrated 6 years of marriage, had a baby, became a stay-at-home mom, let us all invade her house for Christmas, caught viral bronchitis while living with a newborn and recovering from a C-section (I swear it wasn't from us visiting for Christmas!!!), took a baby to a beach, and transformed herself into one of those parents who signs up for Kindermusik.

I am very impressed and proud.

We celebrated on Sunday, and I forgot to take any pictures until we were all leaving and I realized I needed a picture of Ellis and Evelyn because they grow so fast.  So here they are!

Oh goodness.

By the way, Ellis still looks a lot like Laine did at his age.  That makes everyone happy.  He's obviously such a loved little baby and it's amazing to watch Laine have all these adventures with him.  30 is obviously going to be amazing.

An anniversary post for Sara and Chad

It's been 5 years!  Ta da!

This was the year that Sara graduated from college, Chad bought a fish tank, and they got their third nephew.  There were also some 5K runs, fights about lawn care, and a new puppy too!

(I don't have any pictures of said puppy.  Worst aunt ever, and completely the opposite of Sara.  She's a fabulous aunt.)

I always love having holidays at their home and I think Year 5 is going to be a great one for this pair.  Happy anniversary!

Book list for May 2014.

Junkyard Dogs. Craig Johnson*
I took this with me to Alabama and wound up reading a lot of it to Evelyn before naps and bedtime.  I did a little censoring and skipping, but this was easy enough to read aloud.  It's not something I'd thought about when reading any of the other Longmire mysteries, but now I have yet another reason to enjoy them!

You should have watched her eyelids drop after a couple of (again, censored) pages of 'Orlando.'

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. Douglas Adams
I just wanted to get in my annual Adams, so I packed this for the beach as well.  It was a little trickier to read aloud, but I did.  This is my favorite Adams story because it's unexpectedly... gentle.  Something about the narrator and the characters' odd little bits of kindness toward one another makes me happy in ways that the rest of Adams's books don't.  A fun summer read.
